Facebook has lost a legitimate battle against a New York City prosecutor who looked for court orders for many client accounts. The New York state Court of Appeals on Tuesday decided that while the case brought up vital issues about security it was "compelled" by the law identifying with who can challenge court orders.
Prosecutors in Manhattan looked for court orders in 2013 for the records of 381 individuals regarding an inability benefits misrepresentation argument against New York City police and fire retirees.
Menlo Park, California-based Facebook tested the warrants, which it said were overbroad. In an announcement, a representative said the organization was frustrated by the decision and is proceeding to assess its legitimate choices.
The case has been nearly viewed by online networking organizations, common libertarians and prosecutors.
